Blog Post #5: Halfway There!

It's Tuesday, May 23rd, meaning that, by now, we're a bit more than halfway through the project. We continue to be really quite busy, so let's jump right into talking about what we've been working on!

Friday

Friday was another big editing day. We finished up most of the editing work for episodes 1 and 2, particularly the main things like cutting up dialogue and arranging it in the proper places. We also rerecorded a line for episode 2 that needed some tweaking. Not a super busy day in terms of events, but plenty of work done.

Monday

Monday was quite the smattering of work. The morning was more editing and writing work, continuing work on episodes 1 and 2 in post production and episodes 3 and 4 in writing. We also had a meeting with our mentor and proctor to discuss progress on the project so far and our next steps, which was a really great way to start the week to orient ourselves towards the rest of time. In the afternoon, we had some more recording both for some rerecorded lines for episode 1 and we recorded our music for the intro and outro of each episode, though that still needs some editing.

Tuesday

Today, Tuesday, was much the same as usual: writing, editing, and recording. Luke and I went through the scripts for episodes three and four and finalized them. Specifically, in this round of editing, we actually went through the whole scripts together reading aloud, which we found really useful, since in previous episodes we'd often only realize something sounded awkward when we got into the recording booth. In addition, we began recording for episode 4, completing one of the character's lines. Finally, we've got episodes 1 and 2 to the point where they really are actually basically done now and really just need the music to be added.

To zoom out a little bit, at this point, the days are beginning to become a little bit repetitive, making my blog posts in the previous format a little redundant. Don't get me wrong, the days aren't repetitive in a bad way, I think it's more so that we've really hit our stride on production. When we get to work, we generally know what we're supposed to be working on and know how to do most of the things we're working on. I've really had a lot of fun working on this project so far, and I can't wait to see how it turns out in the end.

  1. Jackson, I'm glad that you and Luke have hit your stride with this project, and I also look forward to hearing your podcast! That's great that you are now reading the script out loud before you record the episode so that you can catch the awkward lines beforehand. I never would have thought to make a loud noise as a way to help with the editing process, but it makes total sense. I can tell that you are learning as you go, and I'm glad that Mr. Harold is helping you along the way! -Mrs. Mullen
